A New York City politician now with the Obama administration is trying to defuse suggestions that he took favors from an architect who needed city approval for a development project.
The Daily News reports that former Bronx Borough President Adolfo Carrion has finally paid the architect for a home renovation job completed in early 2007.
A lawyer for architect Hugo Subotovsky says the check for about $4,200 arrived a few days ago.
Prosecutors have been looking into why Carrion went nearly two years to pay for the work. City investigators also recently raided the offices of a development company in connection with the probe.
Carrion says there isn't anything unusual about the delay.
Carrion recently became Obama's urban affairs director.
