Public gardens in Midwest getting ready for spring

If you live in the Midwest, you may still have snow in your yard, but the first flowers of spring will soon appear. Midwest Living magazine is featuring three gardens in the region where you can enjoy the season's blooms. They are:

_The Missouri Botanical Garden, St. Louis, which is celebrating its 150th birthday this year. Peak bloom-time for the garden's thousands of tulips and daffodils is mid-April.

_Helen S. Layer Rhododendron Garden in the Holden Arboretum, Kirkland, Ohio, 20 miles from Cleveland. Peak blooms for the 20-acre rhododendron collection is late May.

_Longenecker Horticultural Gardens at the University of Wisconsin-Madison Arboretum, Madison. Visit in May when you can see the gardens' 175 crabapple cultivars in full bloom, along with 275 blooming lilacs.
