How to Plan a Kids Party - The Seven Steps of a Party Plan For Successful Kids Parties
By Andrea Ayling
This is one in a series of articles that explain the 4 essential rules for planning successful kids parties, why a party plan works, the 7 steps of a good plan, and how to use a plan.
When giving kids parties there are 7 parts to plan and think about. Remember the keep it simple rule and your plan will be easy and satisfying to use.
Food and drink-Choose food with as little last minute preparation as possible and food that can be prepared in advance and frozen.
Invitations-Invitations can be prepared in advance and left for posting or handing out a couple of weeks before. Make sure to include the start and finish time on your invitations.
Party Games-By having the games ready and organized in advance you will find the kids are kept entertained. The atmosphere you create will be relaxed and full of fun. Make sure you know how the games you have chosen are played before your parties start. Bundle and label the equipment for each game and place in a box, bag or envelope. Store all your games together in one large box. This way when you gather the players together for the start of a game you have all your equipment easily at hand. Keep a copy of how the games are played with the games equipment for easy reference. With the exception of any perishables this can all be done weeks in advance. Keep your games box and the equipment you have collected to make planning your next party even easier.
Decorations-I stick to the simple rule here too. By having the plan you will know how much money and time you have to spend on your decorations. I include any plates, serviettes, table clothes etc that will be needed, so even if I already have them I remember to gather them together before the party.
Birthday Cake-I always leave time for making the birthday cake in my plan. I do however bake it in advance and freeze it. I defrost the cake the day before for decorating.
Goody Bags-These can be real budget busters. If budget is a concern remember to keep it Simple.Goody bags can be prepared well in advance and crossed off your list off things to do as long as no perishable items are included.
Day Before Things to Do and Day of Things to Do-Make a list of every thing that still needs to be attended to and sort them onto the Day before things to do and Day of things to do.
For Example
Organize and set the party table
Put up decoration
Decorate the birthday cake
Set up for games
Buy ice for drinks
Plate up the food
The final step is to show you how to layout and use the 7 parts of your party plan. This will be covered in the final article of this series. You are now well on your way to hosting your very own successful kids parties.
