8 Tips to Remember About Party Decorations

By Colin Clear

This is a job you're taking on for free and at the expense of several days of rest and relaxation.  It may be a lot of trouble to plan a party, but those that have organizing in their blood love the opportunity.  Here are ten tips to remember when planning party decorations.

1. Determine the type of party you are hosting.

Has everyone decided upon a party type and a general theme?  Once you know this information you can get started in planning details.

2. Plan meals according to the group consensus.

Don't feel obligated to cook a full meal if nobody's asking for it.  You can always make snacks, drinks, desserts, or finger foods.

3. Decide how many guests you want to invite (or accommodate).

You may or may not have final authority over the guest list, but you should still determine in advance how many guests you would like to invite.  Knowing the final guest list can help you determine many details about size, party decorations and activities.  It may help to request that guests RSVP within a certain amount of time so you can plan for their appearance.

4. Stay on budget!

This is usually not an issue that's cared for.  However, budgeting can be a major concern, even if it's not a top priority at this moment (or what you might call a buzz killer).  Parties come and go but debt stays!

5. Get started early.

There never seems to be enough time to finish a project as thoroughly as you had hoped.  So predict that you will not have enough time from the very beginning, and use this knowledge as incentive for getting started in party decorations early.

6. Enlist the help of volunteers

The larger the party the more you are going to have to depend upon the assistance of others.  For the best results, assign specific tasks to your volunteer assistants.

7. Plan back up activities.

Activities such as sports, games and other fun should not be worked into the party unless there is a consensus that everyone is equally excited about them.  It's better to have back up plans as to what everybody could do, as opposed to hoping for the best and looking around helplessly when things don't turn out.  Try and think of fun things to do in case initial plans happen to fail.

8. Enjoy yourself!

This should go without saying, but what the hey, it bears repeating: have fun out there.  If you're not having fun then the chore of hosting a party will be a contagious feeling and may ruin the party for others.  Decorations should be lively and fun and reflect the spirit of the get together in their design.

Whether you are a child, teenager or adult, it's safe to assume you always look forward to parties!  Now you now a few good tips on how to create an enjoyable atmosphere and stylish party decorations.
